4 Sources for Affordable Art

I’ve been decorating our new apartment in New York and the final layer is to hang art and buy plants (I can’t believe I’m almost done!) So I’ve been scouring the internet for art lately. Here are a few of my GO-TO sources for buying original art or prints.

1. Vintage Paintings Etsy
I give the same tips every time for looking for vintage things online. Put on a movie, grab a nice beverage, and spend an hour or two “adding to cart.” The next morning when you have fresh eyes you can review, edit and buy. The reality is the only way to find great things is to put in the time. Also remember that 20 percent of your purchases will arrive and not. be. great. It’s just part of the deal. (Managing expectations helps any disappointment.) Favorite Search terms: vintage painting original, modern, modernist

2. Fine Little Day
This is an internet institution (from the olden days of the internet). They still make really great art and I like that I don’t see it everywhere. Love this soccer print for a kids room.

3. Juniper Print Shop
Jenny Komenda is a genius and all of her prints are so spot on, are affordable and I especially love the large scale prints. They even make it easy to order based on your IKEA frame.

4. Book/Shop
This book shop that specializes in cool and beautiful used books always has a well-curated art section. If you know, you know.

Love all of these. I’ve also recently been stalking The Poster Club for beautiful, affordable art as well. BONUS: they frame for you, which I’ve always found is worth. the. money.

Another great place to get original artwork (just make sure it is public domain) is the New York Public Library’s Digital Collections website:
