Eye Spy

They say money can’t buy you happiness but sometimes stuff makes you feel better for a little while. Here are some things I’ve been spying around the internet. (Also I suspect I would be happier with that shave ice machine.)

I’m sorry but you literally seem like the most vain person I’ve ever come across. All you talk about is yourself and how proud you are of yourself, and how much money you waste. SO MUCH WASTED MONEY. On a tacky rental in Manhattan. All During a pandemic. When people are dying and losing their jobs. And you are spending money like Napoleon and flaunting it. Get over yourself lady. It’s pathetic.

The idea of decorating a rental can be controversial and even after 15 years on the internet it always surprises me. Even when we were newlyweds and felt like we were living month to month. I got a side hustle at Pottery Barn in the evenings so I could have extra money to spend on decorating my house (and that sweeeeeeeet employee discount.) My surroundings have always been important to me and I’ve always prioritized them. The good news is you don’t have to care about the same things I care about.

Ps: I can see you’re commenting under different names. It seems you’re not interested in having an authentic conversation, our website admin is deleting your other comments.

Jordan, I hope you don’t listen to this troll who clearly doesn’t understand how the internet/blogs work. I love following along with your posts, your blog, your stories and all the rest of it. It’s not “vain” to be so open. It must be really really really hard. I don’t understand why this person would show up on your blog and write this. What makes me really sad is that I bet they know this particular comment would be very hurtful to you and the only way they would know that is through seeing all of the work you’ve done over the years and hearing you share so much of yourself. Anyway, I just… I never comment on blog posts but just saw that and it makes me angry on your behalf.

I love this. It’s fun. Things are terrible out in the world and I appreciate the diversion! xoxo

Yes. This. The world is in shambles, but content like this is totally my escape. Just let me look at pretty sleeves and stools in peace! So glad you’re blogging again, Jordan.

I think we’d all be better off we we admitted that money does bring happiness! It took me a long time to acknowledge the joy that things could bring me. I felt guilty and ashamed. But now I get even more joy because I’m not hiding how much delight I from objects and my environment, how much comfort, novelty, and intellectual stimulation money can grant. I don’t think that makes me materialistic or vain.
