Birthday Talent Show

We’re celebrating my birthday weekend (only one more shopping day everybody!) in Palm Springs with some of my pals. For my birthday dinner I asked my friends to bring a talent to perform for a talent show. People are either super into it or a little terrified. I’ve never done tap dancing before but I decided to take tap dance lessons for my performance. I’ve been practicing like crazy and getting my costume ready. See a peek at my costume below. I found it at a vintage store, it wasn’t for sale but I begged the owner to sell it to me and he did. I’ll report back later how it goes. Have you ever had your friends perform at a party? One of my friends is going to recite Cowboy Poetry he has memorized.

You bet!!! When our family reunites we have our annual Talent Show. By the end of the first act, we’re rolling around on the floor with laughter. Everyone participates – from the youngest to the oldest. So far we’ve seen the cup song, gymnastics, rap, original songs, rave dancing (ahem, me), popping wheelies on a bike, and even our pet tortoise has done a trick. It’s hilarious! There’s cash prizes because Grandma is the judge. She’s partial to her little grandchildren, but we don’t mind.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JORDAN. You’re an inspiration to us bloggers and creators. May you have the happiest of birthdays, singing and dancing into the night.

    With Love,
    Christine

The idea of this makes me really happy! It’s my 30th birthday coming up in March and I’ve been trying to scheme something similar/amazing to do. Is there a particular place you recommend staying in Palm Springs? I’ve been wanting to do a trip there and this would be a great excuse.

    Thanks! And Happy Birthday!!

I looooove the costume and the talent show idea! Nicole- I always stay at the Ace, and from following Jordan’s instagram I can see that she was there too. It’s fantastic! There are also some good airbnb finds down there as well…

How interesting! I probably would be a bit terrified myself. Although, it does sound like the makings of a fun and memorable party. Thank you for the idea! For people like myself, maybe it could be adapted to exempt the birthday gal or boy :).

Yes! I wrote a personalized mad lib that all the guests helped fill in for a friend’s birthday talent show. It was fun and funny and took some of the pressure off of me and my hubby!

My dad loves poetry so each year my we recite a poem from memory for him. The Raven was the most difficult one yet!

We did a talent show at our wedding (because it was at a kid’s sleepaway camp). It wasn’t mandatory, because we had a lot of guests, but lots of people participated. I did freestyle baton twirling to Michael McDonald’s Sweet Freedom. I took baton for 2 weeks in 2nd grade. So, you know, I’m really good. I taught myself one new trick and just went with it. My husband did a cappella Paul’s Boutique with two of our other friends.

Other highlights: a gorgeous puppet show (http://vimeo.com/32680256), a recreation of the Hula Hana performance from Dirty Dancing, my friend dressing up like the Bee Girl and dancing around to Blind Melon’s No Rain, my friend singing Colors of the Wind (from Pocahontas). We had some people do toasts during it (none during the wedding day dinner) and it turned into karaoke at the end.

It was a BLAST. Have fun and Happy Birthday!

This totally cracks me up! In a great way. 🙂 What a super cool, fun idea! Btw, I used your Birthday poster puzzle idea for my husband’s birthday this year and it was a complete hit! Everyone loved it and thought it was a great idea. And unbelieveably, everyone sent their puzzle piece back! I, of course, gave the credit to you. 🙂
