Guest Room Makeover

Today I’m sharing pictures of our guest bedroom. First of all the fact that we have a guest bedroom is a miracle. We’ve been living in tiny city apartments for the last 10 years, it really is crazy that we have an entire room that is extra!

Guest Room Makeover | Oh Happy Day!

This room gets the best light in the house. Someday when the kids are a little older we’ll probably make it the master bedroom. When we moved in it had been freshly painted by the previous owner this dark brown color. We left it for about 6 months and then one day I realized I missed having white walls. Other than paint we didn’t do anything to the space. In a lot of ways this room hasn’t been designed as deliberately as some of the other rooms. It is a collection of furniture that didn’t fit anywhere else so it ended up here. The bed was one I bought 5 years ago and the rug used to be in the living room, even the wall of art is made up mostly of pieces I’ve picked up here and there rather than an intentional purchase for this room. The sidetables, bedding, and lighting were all bought just for this room. I’m a big fan of bedside lighting that is attached to the wall. Once at 5 am I accidentally knocked a lamp off my bedside table and broke it. Ever since I always get wall lamps. This is one room that will still probably get tweaked a bit before I feel it’s finally “done.”

It’s been fun to have a space to hosts guests. When we have guests come into town I usually pick up some flowers and leave a carafe of water and a bowl of candy on the sidetable. I also have a little book of things to do in the neighborhood and our favorite spots so that guests can get around while we’re at work.  Someone told me once to spend a few nights in your guest room so you can notice the little things that might make your guests more comfortable. We tried that last year and am so glad we did. We realized a light came on late at night that shone right into the room. We had window coverings installed the next weekend.

It’s beautiful how everything fit perfectly! I wouldn’t have guessed that you did not intentionally buy the pieces for the room.

Kudos – such a beautiful space! The light it gets is wonderful too. I have been saving up to get the single sconces from Serena and Lily in our master. Do you like them functionally?

Also, I am curious…is there anything were the bay window is?

It’s lovely! You’d never know it was a bunch of furniture that you didn’t have space for. It looks planned. So cozy.

What a lovely room. I think it was absolutely a right decision to paint those walls white. The room looks so much more modern and fresher now. And there’s definitely more light in there.

Painting those walls white was the best decision!!!! Look how much it reflects the light. I’d happily be a guest in this room 🙂

I’m in such love with the dresser and the bed frame! The shape, size and colours of your guest room is similar to that of my master bedroom, have been pondering over how’d I fit a dresser into my room – thanks for your ideas!
