The Academy Awards is my absolute favorite red carpet event of the year. As one of the few people left on earth who still goes to see movies in the theater, I get all wrapped up in the suspense around who is due for an Oscar (I actually cried when Christopher Plummer won for his role in Beginners). For our spin on the Oscars, we took a gilded gold art deco take on the beloved watch party. Read on to see all the details!
For the pre-watch dinner party, we used noir party plates, added gold and feathered touches, and topped it all off with these DIY award envelope place settings. Have your guests play a round of Who Am I? while they wait for the food. Inside each place setting, insert a card with the name of a celebrity for the guest to wear against their forehead. No peeking! First person to guess which celebrity they are wins the trophy!
Materials needed: Cardstock (in gold, red, white), glue stick, scissor, pencil, envelope printable template, 1” circle paper punch
Step 1: Print the envelope template onto gold cardstock. Cut out with a scissor, fold, and glue together using a glue stick.
Step 2: Make a paper seal stamp from red cardstock. Start by cutting out a circle approximately 1 1/4” big with “wavy edges.” Punch out a 1” circle and cut out small strips as ‘ribbon.’ Layer and glue all the parts together.
Step 3: Cut out a piece of white cardstock 3” by 1-1/4”. Then, cut out one that is slightly bigger out of the gold cardstock. Stack and glue them together so the white strip has a beveled appearance.
Step 4: Glue all the parts to the envelope with the glue stick. You’re done!
Add seat card placeholders in the watch area, using just a sheet of white paper and a bit of gold ribbon!

This styling would be awesome for a Great Gatsby party too. Love the black bentwood chairs as well.
