It’s almost fall, my favorite season! Tiny acorns covering the ground is one of my favorite signs that fall is in full swing! Today we are sharing how to make acorn surprise balls. If you aren’t familiar with them, they are balls of crepe paper wrapped up with different tiny prizes inside. You can fill them with stickers, candy, mini pencils, even cash!
Materials needed: Surprise Ball Acorn Cap Printable, scissors, hot glue gun, crepe paper party streamers (in yellow), tiny gifts (in a range of small sizes), Aleene’s Quick Dry Tacky Glue
Step 1: Print out the acorn surprise ball cap template and cut out all the pieces. Score along the lines of the design so it’s easier to fold. Make sure the printed side is on the interior of the cap so the lines won’t be visible. Apply hot glue along the tabs to assemble. Then, cut a small slit on the top of the cap and insert the stem. Glue to secure
Step 2: Gather a bunch of tiny gifts (mini pencils, candy, temporary tattoos, stickers, erasers, cash, etc).
Step 3: Starting with the largest of the tiny gifts, begin wrapping your items in the yellow crepe paper streamer. Wrap each item completely before moving onto the next one to keep up the element of surprise!
Step 4: Wrap the second largest item. You want to end up with an acorn shape, so be strategic when placing your items. Pinch the bottom of the surprise ball and use the crepe paper to bind the shape into place.
Step 5: Wrap the remaining items into the streamer. Periodically check to see if the acorn cap fits snugly onto the surprise ball.
Step 6: Once you’ve wrapped your last gift, cut the streamer and secure with a dab of Aleene’s. Place a piece of washi tape on the end the streamer to create a small tab for easy unwrapping.
Step 7: Place the cap on top of the surprise ball. You’re all set!

It’s not even fall where I live, but I still love this DIY project so much! I’ll have to keep this page bookmarked for when Autumn makes it’s way around to us Aussies again!
