80’s Prom Sashes

If you checked out our post yesterday, you saw our awesome balloon pillars, reminiscent of an 80’s prom. Today, we’re kicking this theme up a notch with modern “prom queen” sashes! We decked ours out with funny millennial sayings perfect for Galentine’s Day or for Single Awareness Day (February 15th folks, mark your calendars!). These are great because they are completely customizable, so you can say whatever you like! All you need is a sash, some blue eyeshadow, and a side pony and you’re ready to party! Read on to see how to make your own!

Materials Needed: 4” satin ribbon, stiff felt, packing tape, scissors, Aleene’s Quick Dry Tacky Glue, pins

Step 1: Type out the phrase you want on the sash and size it up to fit on the ribbon. Our letters were roughly 2” tall. Print out the phrase.

Step 2: Secure the letters to a piece of felt with packing tape. This will help keep the design in place and makes it easier to cut out the letters.

Step 3: Carefully cut out the letters with scissors. You can use an x-acto knife for the interior of the letters if you like.

Step 4: Cut a length of ribbon long enough to make a sash, using the user for reference. Trim the ends to points for a more finished look.

Step 5: Fold the ribbon in half. Center and glue the letters to the sash with Aleene’s and let dry completely.

Step 6: Put on the sash and use pins to secure!
