In my family, the holidays are one of the few times where we all sit down and feast together, different from a buffet-style family event, or outdoor barbecue picnic where everyone just sits where they can. These feather place cards are a sweet, delicate touch on the table setting, perfect for a more minimal color palette. But of course, you can use any color crepe paper, watercolor paint, or colored tags to match your holiday décor.
Materials needed: white crepe paper, watercolor paints, scissors, craft glue, bamboo skewers, tags, washi tape, letter stickers (I used these), string.
Step 1: Cut a 2 x 9” piece of white crepe paper with the grain running horizontally. Gently stretch it out a bit.
Step 2: Apply a line of craft glue down the center of the crepe paper, and lay the skewer on the glue, leaving 3 or 4 inches of skewer showing at the bottom. Press the crepe paper to the skewer to secure. Let dry.
Step 3: Cut the top of the arrow as shown in the image below.
Step 4: Cut fringe into each side of the “feather” at an angle. If you wish, use watercolor the paint the edges and/or tops and sides of the feathers.
Step 5: Using letter stickers, attach your guests’ initials to a tag, and tie to the bottom of the skewer.
Step 6: Add a flag or two of washi tape on the skewer, notching the side with a scissors to finish it off.

So sweet! These would be lovely place settings for a fancy book-club too. They remind me of old fashioned feather writing quills.
