I love looking at mid century design for craft ideas – these hanging stars were inspired by the popular starburst and atomic patterns. Made of straws, these decorations are super quick (and affordable!) to make. And check out more retro party projects!
Supplies: Circle cutting tool (or circle punch), cutting mat, colored straws, card stock to match straws, scissors, string, tape
Step 1: Use the circle cutter to cut a circle with a 1 3/4″ diameter – this will be the center circle. Cut six smaller 1″ circles – these are the outside circles.
Step 2: Cut six straws of equal length. You can play around with this to make each star a little different.
Step 3: Cut a short snip on both ends of all straws, being sure to keep the snips at the same spot on both ends as pictured.
Step 4: Slide the six straws onto the big paper circle, distributing them equally.
Step 5: Slide the small six circles onto the ends of the straws.
Step 6: Tape string to one side of the center circle and hang from the ceiling. Repeat!
