Pomme

We were in Dumbo on Saturday {so much to do there!} and we walked by a children’s store Kendra wrote about. It was all I could do to not give the shopgirl at Pomme all the money I own in exchange for those beautiful beautiful things. Plus I think they win the contest for cutest logo ever.

You’re blog is pretty/inspiring/magic. All of the wonderful things in the world fitted into a webpage.

Oh dear, I hadn’t heard of Pomme before. Went to the website and fell in love with the Birds of a Feather mobile. I’ve been searching for the perfect over the crib mobile and now my search is over. So thanks for pointing me towards Pomme! Now when my hubbie sees the bill he might not be so thankful…but boys don’t always understand such yearnings.

I’ve been reading you blog since I moved to SF. You’ve given me tons of great SF knowledge, so I thought I’d return the favor. I used to live in Brooklyn Heights and I worked in the corner of SoHo and the West Village.

If you go back to Dumbo you should check out Modern Tots and Jacque Torres (the mini cupcakes with strawberry frosting and the ice cream sandwiches got me through my pregnancy. There’s also a Hudson Street location) jacquestorres.com, http://www.moderntots.com.

Giggle’s store in SoHo is great. It’s very close to the Jonathan Adler store and the Barney’s Coop (or as I refer to it, the happiest place in the world). Reading your blog, I think you might like Pearl River, Uniqlo and Global Table. They’re all in SoHo.

Blue Ribbon Bakery was my favorite place for lunch in the neighborhood. Amazing bread and sandwiches. They have a take out place just around the corner that has this amazing little open-faced duck sandwich. Ditch Plains is across the street and has a great Lobster roll. Pearl Oyster Bar on Cornelia is amazing. Blue Ribbon Sushi is my favorite sushi place. Order the Omakasi (Ask for the horseshoe mackerel sashimi, they’ll flash fry the bones and serve it to you afterwards, takes a little getting used to, but it’s delicious. And save room for the green tea Crème Brulée). Milk and Cookies is worth a visit (milkandcookiesbakery.com). If you have a chance to go out sans baby , Employees Only on Hudson makes great old school cocktails. While you’re over there walk up Hudson and Bleeker, great shops and scenery) And on the other side of town, I think Clinton Street Baking Co (www.clintonstreetbaking.com) is totally lives up to the hype. But DO NOT go on the weekend. And Zarin Fabric is just down the street.

More shopping things…go to dailycandy.com and search their archive for sample sale listings.

Go to Century 21 (www.c21stores.com). But DO NOT go there on the weekend. Weekday mornings are best. It’s overwhelming, but I loved the European designer section in the kids department, the sheets and towels, women’s designer shoes, handbags, lingerie and the Marc Jacobs section upstairs.

Other places that I’m sure you know about, but I encourage you not to miss are ABC (‘Wichcraft is around the corner and delicious, but I think they may have open up a SF location http://www.wichcraftnyc.com), The MoMA, Henri Bendels, Bergdofs, and the big Barneys uptown. While you’re up there, check out Rizzoli books. http://www.rizzoliusa.com/. And, of course the meat packing district. It’s kind of turned into Disneyland over there, but the shopping is good and all the great galleries are just north to the north.

Tourist things…walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, take the Staten Island Ferry (it’s free and a great way to see the Statue of Liberty without the lines and tourists), In Grand Central the Oyster Bar and the Campbell Apartment are worth checking out. Avoid all urges to go to Times Square.

I’m rambling and clearly I could go on forever. I hope something on here is helpful and you have a great trip.

Oh one last thing, M&J Trimming in the garment district.

Um… I promise I’m not stalking you cross-country. But I think I saw you on Saturday too! I was just about to climb the stairs to the Brooklyn Bridge pedestrian path, thought I mistaking someone else coming off the bridge for you, but then saw paul + stroller and realized I had been right. Again, too late to say hi. Any bets on where I’ll next cross your path?

That logo HURTS it’s so cute!! I’m looking for a similarly stylish bit of clip art for a pro bono preschool brochure. Have any leads for me? Would love a silo’d something in B&W…
