Apartment Tour: Kitchen

The kitchen is sort of the last unconquered territory in our apartment. I’ve spent the least amount of time/money on it. I had all these big plans, but they never happened. Without further ado, my kitchen.

Photo 1: Our kitchen is actually decent sized for a SF kitchen. But it has barely any counter space. For a long time we had our dining table in the kitchen but it was always awkward to cook and eat in such a small space. So we moved the dining table to a much happier home in the living room. We bought this sideboard from IKEA to use as counter space and storage. We also installed these shelves to use as storage. Two seconds after I painted the wall that yellow color I hated it. We just never changed it. Also, I always wanted to arrange the shelves cuter, but never got around to it.

Photo 2: Not much to see here. We installed the pan rack from IKEA for better pan storage. {p.s.: I have a pretty good collection of kitchen stuff because when I worked at Pottery Barn I got 40% off at Williams Sonoma.}

Photo 3: I hate these cupboards. They are cheap and lame. The people in the apartment above us took out the upper ones completely and painted the lower ones. They also laid ikea wood flooring on top of that dumb linoleum. I LOVE their kitchen. If I was going to stay I would’ve made those changes.

Photo 4: Nothing noteworthy here. Behind that door is our storage.

    I LOVE that you’re doing this farewell house tour. I think it’s very honest and real–sometimes you just don’t get to realize all your ideas and/or to finish the projects on your to-do list. It’s clear that a lot of thinking went into choosing things for your current apartment. And . . . I appreciate your enthusiasm for the different objects you’ve collected along the way. Good job!

    I love those super tall cake plates with the domes! And, you know what, I actually really like that yellow.

    I HAVE to know where you got the cake domes and stands. I can go on living without them….

    What is it, you don’t like about the yellow?

    I love the yellow. It’s neat that SF apartment owners let you paint. They don’t around here.

    This is so sad. Why can I see all the other blog photos, but not the ones under this kitchen tour? I want to see them so badly! 🙁

    I thought I must be the only one having trouble with the kitchen photos! Every time the page loads it’s different- sometimes one pic, sometimes two pics, sometimes no pics.

    I got no photos of the kitchen. I feel like I’ve been reading a good book and some of the pages are missing. Argh!

    Tracy M: cake stands from Mosser Glass. The domes from English Creek Gardens. I’ve blogged about both of these before.

    Rachel: It was TOO yellow. The shelves need to be painted white or something.

    love boxes: SF owners don’t let you paint. You just do and then spend a few hours painting it back white before the inspection.

    Not sure why the pictures disappeared but I reloaded them.

    I think that yellow kitchen is the happiest, cheeriest thing I have seen all day. Throw in the cake stands, and well, I’m a goner.
