Since I started my blog over a year ago people have been convincing me to put ads on it. I was never opposed to being compensated for blogging. Sometimes I put several hours of research into it a day. But in the end I always decided not to. Mostly because I think ads are ugly. And when I actually looked into it and realized all you make is a few measly dollars a week, I never thought it was worth it.
I’ve decided to try it for a week to see how much I can actually make and see how bad the ads actually irritate me. So far after two days I’ve made $4… 🙁

Hi, just a tip, you should see if you can narrow the type of ads on your page, because I can bet the ones with your name in them do not make you as much money as the design related ads… just a thought… ps. i love reading your blog!

Leave it up for a while and see how it goes! I think it’s a good move, for now.
You put so much into your blog, you might as well try to make a little cashola. Even if it’s just a few bucks!

You’ve made four bucks after two days?! Well this will make you feel better then: I’ve made $1.65 in the past seven months!!! Now who deserves to have a frowny face? I do. 🙁
Haha! *B

I’d skip the ads if it’s not financially lucrative. Your blog is more beautiful without them! How is the Flood Street Press btw? I’m excited to see more of your letterpress…

the ad for a roundtrip flight to jordan is pretty hilarious. it’s almost worth keeping just for that.

Not that i would endorse abuse of the google system but I believe that you get paid for click thru’s not for page hites so if folks want to see Jordan get paid for her efforts, take a peek at what an advertiser has to offer here n there.

Hey, at that rate you could have $60 a month. Is that really that bad?

seriously, keep the ads. speaking as a search engine marketer, they can be lucrative. 😀 definitely work with adsense to target the ads better – i wonder what the largest groups of reader types are? like, are most of your readers here for the home design part of your blog, the foodie stuff, the san francisco stuff, the bridal stuff?
also, i have to say i had no idea you’d put ads up until you mentioned it, and then i really had to look to see them there. they blend very well. and you actually have good real estate in your blog, especially in web 2.0. people want what you have, and you put time into creating it and making it good, so why shouldn’t you get tipped?

it definitely takes a little time to start generating a decent amount of revenue. you’d be surprised how well adsense performs as the ads become more targeted.:)

I’VE BEEN READING YOUR BLOG FOR 2 MONTHS NOW. YOURS IS THE ONLY BLOG THAT I CHECK DAILY. I THINK THAT ANY TIME YOU CAN AVOID ADS, THE MORE ARTISTIC SOMETHING LOOKS. WE ARE CONSTANTLY BOMBARDED BY ADS; IS IT REALLY WORTH IT FOR THE SMALL FEES?

I love your blog and check it every day. I’ve even bought things you feature. But down with the ads! they seriously dilute the integrity of your ideas – and especially as they become more targeted. If you want to make good money for your efforts put yourself out there as a consultant, write for magazines, go on TV. But let go of the ads.

hahaha What kind of integrity am I trying to maintain? 🙂 I post clips from the Maury Povich show for goodness sake.

I agree with the no ads side. Or at least the no ads right at the top. I don’t mind the ones on the side.
