There are tickets right now from San Francisco to Peru for $615 {and that is including taxes and fees!} I’d love to go to Machu Picchu and then buy a So. American airpass and travel for a few weeks. Our friends Michelle and Jared Aller hiked the whole Inca trail last summer. She posted all their amazing pictures with advice for anyone planning on going to Machu Picchu. If you know Michelle, then you know how hardcore she is about her research. This is a goldmine of information.

My husband visited Peru, Argentina and Brazil 2 Summers ago and loved it. When he came back, he felt very hopeful for Brazil as an emerging economy, but also loved visiting the places that seem un-touched by Americanization. He was so impressed by the many artists and artisans that he saw and brought home 3 lovely paintings from Peru and my favorite one of a famous Tango School in Argentina. But, of all the places that he visited, I would love to visit Rio most of all… like you said, people from the burbs always want to visit the city. 🙂

You should spend a few days in Lima! No matter what part of the city you’re in there is always stuff happening. Plus you can’t beat super cheap prices at the Indian Market!
