Valentines Day Reminder

If you are planning on going out to dinner on Valentines Day {it lands on Wednesday this year} you can probably still get reservations at your favorite restaurant. This is your official reminder to make it. Otherwise you’ll be bummed when you are calling all over town the week before only to find everything all booked up. All of the restaurants in San Francisco do a “special” Valentines Day meal that also includes a “special” price. We did it one year and were sad when we paid double for our meal and were rushed in and out of a crowded restaurant. My boss gave me the idea of cooking a good meal at home so we’ve made a tradition of that the last two years. I buy an expensive cut of meat and make a fancy pants meal. Paul is in charge of the entertainment which usually consists of a good movie, a game, making valentines for eachother {it’s so cute, he even lays out art supplies!}, a bubblebath, and a present exchange. Our well laid tradition could be complicated if we ever have kids {it would be harder to have a romantic night at home} but for now that is our tradition.

Our tradition is to pick up take-out from a favorite restaurant and then watch a romantic movie. I love the idea of making valentines – we may steal that for this year.

I was reminded of Valentines Day while at Target last night, so I bought a heart shaped doormat to get myself in the mood for love. Or maybe I’m just trying to be optimistic that I’ll have someone to spend Valentine’s day with.

ugh. how dare you mention V-day already?
New Years and V-day rank the same for anticipation/ letdown. There’s never anyone to kiss.

Boo – happy married people… boooooo!

I love the stay home idea. You’re not at the mercy of the restaurant, the waiter, the weather, etc.

Note: Married people are lonely sometimes, too. That’s life. But V-day can be hard on us–we girls are such romantics. All we can do is make it a good day for anyone around us and nevermind our expectations.

Here’s to flowers and chocolates and hugs for all!
