I started de-rusting my press on Saturday. The process involves Kerosene and nonstick scrubbing pads. I was wearing surgical gloves but the kerosene wore through it several times. After a few hours I went home for a break and all of a sudden I felt dizzy and my throat felt chemically burnt. I wish you could rent gas masks. I have plenty of hours left of de-rusting.

i have been lurking on your blog the past couple of weeks and quite enjoy all your excellent ideas and links.
but i digress, you can rent gas masks, and at the very least you can get a respirator mask and industrial strength gloves from a paint store. do be careful, my husband burned his lungs while acid dying our concrete floors. (he did heal)
good luck!

Hey there, I’m in the girl design group… though I haven’t made it to a meeting yet.
Check it: Dharma Dye Works they sell industrial gloves meant to handle really harsh chemicals and they also sell hepa respirators. I use both in my textile work. I would loan you mine – but it sorta is like wearing another woman’s underwear. If you know what I mean.
