One of the great things about having a boyfriend or getting married is you get to dress them. It’s like having your own life size Ken doll! Paul has good taste in clothing but he doesn’t mind if I do the shopping. I’m not an expert at buying men’s clothing but I have learned a few tricks over the last couple years. My shopping process for Paul goes something like this:
1. Discuss with Paul what he likes and what he needs. {ie: his shoes are getting old or he needs more ties etc.}
2. Hit the catalogues and internet to look for good outfits and needed wardrobe pieces.
3. After that I sit down with Paul and show him everything. He might nix a coat or a pair of shoes but usually he likes most of it.
4. Next step is to go shopping with Paul. My main stops are Urban Outfitters, American Apparel, Banana Republic and JCrew. We go into the store and I show the sales associate the pictures. I get Paul in the dressing room as quickly as possible and have him try on everything. I may browse a little bit to look for sale items but I try to keep it to a minimum so that Paul doesn’t get sick of shopping.
Paul loves shopping like this because we get in–we get out and we always come out with stuff he likes.
This seasons picks:
Levis, Adidas, and Jacket from Urban Outfitters
Blazers from JCrew
Suit from Banana Republic and Ties from JCrew

Jordan, you are a lucky girl. Nate hates to shop and only really likes stuff that is on sale. Last year for his birthday I bought him some really cute vans and a pair of pumas and ended up returning them. Though he has a taste for alternative things (movies, music, me), he keeps his fashion taste on the down-low. I love those shoes and the jacket from Urban Outfitters.

Paul doesn’t like to shop but the whole in and out process I described is our compromise. He doesn’t mind it if it is efficient. He just hates browsing unless it is at the Apple store. Also, we usually do shopping for him about twice a year but when we go we buy everything. Its a lot easier to take advantage of friends and family sales and seasonal sales when you are buying everything at once.

You are lucky…sometimes I wish I could dress Mark…it seems fun…but he does such a nice job himself…and he can shop circles around me.

I’m in the middle of Jordan and Pepper. Jared loves buying his own shoes and jeans. Typically, if I see something I think he’d like, I just buy it, show it to him and then it’s a keeper or I return it. Jared saw a pair of shoes on a design blog from the UK and searched the internet for days trying to find them. They’re one of his favorite pairs.
