I watched the Music Awards while I filed away every document and paper in our one bedroom apartment. I always felt like popular music didn’t have a lot to offer me. If I think about it I’ve even been snobbish about the kind of music I listened to. That’s why it makes me so happy when Justin Timberlake comes on stage and performs and is so undeniably cool. No one can watch that and deny that he a genius. It makes me happy when someone I would categorically reject proves my stereotypes wrong and puts me in my place. I’ve felt like that a lot lately. Shakira for example, her hips don’t lie. They really don’t. And Beyonce… Or the Dixie Chicks video (I’m admitting I like pop Country Music?) I love the black and white imagery with the oil references. It is so beautiful. As much as I would like to think I’m cooler than the Dixie Chicks {their name is unforgivable , yes} when they do good work I can’t deny it.
