I’m only a germaphobe when it comes to public transportation and hotel rooms. I asked for shopping recommendations yesterday… now I need a hotel recommendation. I’m looking for a nice hotel decently priced (it can even be a little fancy) in a cool part of town (I prefer downtown to uptown) and the most important part: it must be squeaky clean.

Our friends stayed at the Rivington Hotel on the Lower East Side. It must have been clean enough because I heard no complaints — and I would have heard something from these people! The hotel is really, really cool.
Also, there’s brand-spankin-newly rennovated Grammercy Hotel –interiors by Julien Schnabel.
The W is always a good bet — there’s one at Union Square.

I would love to stay at the Library Hotel (libraryhotel.com)or the Time Hotel (thetimeny.com). Both are probably more than you want to spend, but are amazing.

I really liked the Royalton. It’s got fabulous decor and a great location but it is super expensive.

We stayed at the Westin in Times Square. It’s really new, very clean, very nice, and we got our reservations on Hotwire (its the 4.5 star hotel in Midtown/Times Square) so it was quite reasonable.
If you want clean this is a good one. We stayed at an older hotel, that was also rated high, but it didn’t touch Westin’s cleanliness.

soho grand or tribeca grand are very clean, modern spaces and they give Kiehls bath products, big plus!
