I read about this chain of little hotels in Cottage Living. I guess it wouldn’t be correct to call it a “chain”. Basically these two guys with beards bought up old schools or old theatres in the Northwest (think Oregon and Washington.) And then they converted them into small hotels and restaurants. I’m intrigued. Next time we head up that way I am definitely checking these out. See more info here.

I read about this in Via (a magazine I get because I have AAA auto insurance). The Old Saint Francis School is in Bend, and I went there for 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade. I’d love to stay there the next time I go to Bend.

OK, so I just discovered your incredible blog so this is like a year late, but I stayed at a McMenamins in Portland. It was the most fun place ever, a converted school complete with a Detention room, theater, and a huge soaking pool in the courtyard. If you can stay there… do it.
