TIVO

Now I know technically its not TIVO brand but that’s what I call it anyway. It’s like Vaseline or Band-Aid, where the brand becomes synonymous with the product. We set up TIVO last night and here are things I can watch at my leisure this evening.

1. Martha Stewart
2. Oprah
3. The Hills
4. The Daily Show
5. The Colbert Report

This has got to be the most liberating feeling. Never again will I procrastinate going to sleep or to the grocery store because “I want to finish this show.” I also know that I’m like the last person in the world to get it so everyone already stopped reading this post after they saw the title. I’ll stop talking about it now.

Tivo is one of the best inventions! Fast forwarding through commericals is great.

It’s really funny that you still call it a TiVo when it’s really a DVR because everyone who gets a DVR first wants to call it TiVo, but those of us who tried TiVo first can’t bring ourselves to call a generic DVR a TiVo.

It’s hard to explain the differences between the two, but there is a huge difference between TiVo and a DVR. Mostly, it’s the home networking connection (being able to listen to music and photos on your home system), but it’s also little subtleties like TiVo suggestions or Wishlists. My advice is to sign up for the one year TiVo online and try it for a month, if you still prefer the DVR then cancel and you don’t owe anything, but I can almost guarantee you that after trying the real TiVo, you’ll think it’s an insult to call that unstable piece of junk a TiVo box.

Jordo – my parents have Tivo & they don’t even use all the networking hoopla. DVR – Tivo same thing to me. Besides who wants some box picking out what you want to watch.

next time you’re going to devote 30 minutes to tv, instead spend it on youtube.
type in your favorite band or place or event or just go up to the favorites, it’s awesome.
FYI as of this week YouTube is getting 100 million video downloads a day, coinciding with the 4 major television networks’ lowest ratings ever.
FYI #2 david hasselhoff just turned 54.
