September 13th is Fortune Cookie Day. Who knew!?! Celebrate any event with this re-usable, easy-to-transport, or even mail-able (packed up in a Chinese food take-out container) felt garland. In place of strips of decorative paper, you could even insert personalized fortunes – for example, “You will always be surrounded by those who love you.” Perfect for a baby shower, bridal shower or engagement party.
Materials needed: Felt, scissors, pencil, 5” bowl or plate for tracing a circle, hot glue gun, hole punch, string, decorative paper
Step 1: Using a bowl or plate for a circle template, trace a circle on the felt. Cut out circles.
Step 2: Fold in half. With the hot glue gun, glue a line starting 1” in from the fold, ending 1” in from the other side of the fold. Press the two sides together.
Step 3: Holding the felt ‘taco,’ poke your finger in the center and bring the two edges together.
Step 4: Glue the two folded sides together. Hold for a few minutes until the glue sets.
Step 5: Punch a hole through the top.
Step 6: Thread the string through, and insert the fortunes (strips of decorative paper, about 1/2” x 3”).

These are so darling! The first thing I thought when I saw them was definitely “baby shower,” since there seems to be some kind of metaphor for the babe in mama’s womb and the fortune inside the cookie, haha. Too bad all my friends are still a few years away from being pregnant!

These would be great to put in lunches for kids or husband. Put in a love note or fortune. Add them to the garland as they are received and read and hang it above their bed as a reminder of how much you love them.

Cute idea! I read your blog regularly but am always looking for cute felt projects to share with the customers of the toy company I work for–eeBoo. We make the most beautiful colors of felt! (I may be a little bias- but we did have our colors painstakingly custom dyed!) Anyway, I thought you may appreciate the array of choices! http://shop.eeboo.com/c/arts-crafts_colored-felt
And! Thanks for the cute project idea!!

Lovely!
Where can I purchase that beautiful table cloth? Looks like it’s from Rifle Paper Co. but I don’t see any table cloths in their shop. Thanks!
