I love making eye-catching invitations – I feel like you get RSVPs much quicker when the invitation isn’t just a plain text email. These paper lantern globe invitations are perfect if you’re throwing a bon voyage party for a friend. Wouldn’t it be fun to make one from a giant paper lantern for party decor? Just hang it with some happy decorations and you’re good to go!
Supplies: 4″ blue paper lanterns, card stock, scissors, hole punch, paint, paintbrush, pencil, marker/pen, string
Step 1: Assemble your paper lanterns.
Step 2: Using a map as a reference, roughly and lightly sketch the continents onto the paper lantern.
Step 3: Paint the continents that you just drew. This is a lot easier and quicker if you add some water to your paint so that it flows smoothly.
Step 4: Repeat for the rest of the paper lanterns.
Step 5: Cut tags out of card stock (these ones are about 1 3/4″ by 3 1/2″) and hole punch the end.
Step 6: Write your message on the tag with more party details on the back side.
Step 7: Cut a piece of string about 14″ long. Fold it in half and tie a knot 5″ from the fold.
Step 8: Thread one of the loose tails around the metal armature of a paper lantern and thread the tag onto the string tail as well. Tie the two tails together and cut off any excess string.

Now I want someone to take a long trip so I have an excuse to throw a bon voyage party and use these invites (and maybe have a paper airplane making contest at the party?!)!

I love this idea – but I don’t trust myself to draw the continents so they are recognizable!
It’s really not so hard once you get started, I promise! Or you could always try doing something more like this if you’re still hesitant!
