How sweet would it be to surprise your mom with a yummy cake and a beautiful handmade cake topper? Grab a cake from your local bakery, or make a simple chocolate cake (because, who doesn’t love chocolate?). Adding a handmade topper will make it that much more special. (PS – Mother’s Day brunch!)
Materials: 8 feet of green floral wire, glue, scissors, wooden skewers, green marker, green paper, binder clips, miniature fake flowers.
Step 1: Fold the 8′ of wire in half, and twist it together in a few places to keep the two pieces of wire close.
Step 2: Begin bending the wire to write ‘Mom’ in cursive letters, making the first M about 4 inches tall. If you need to, it might be helpful to write a loose script ‘Mom’ on a piece of paper, and trace over it with the wire as you work.
Step 3: From several shades of green paper, cut out a variety of tiny leaves, approx. 1/2″ each.
Step 4: Glue bunches of leaves on in different places.
Step 5: Glue the heads of the miniature flowers on where the leaves are “growing.” (You may need to snip the wire off the miniature flowers if they do not pull off).
Step 6: Cover the top 2″ of 2 wooden skewers with green marker. Glue and clamp the skewers onto the first and last M’s.
Step 7: Insert into the cake, serve, and enjoy your mom’s smile.
PS: This cake topper is easily adaptable to any name or word. I think it would be adorable as a baby shower cake topper too.

Hi Brittany – I think it’s 18mm. I purchased it at Jamali Garden Supply in NYC. Thanks! Chiara
