A Housewarming Party Kit

I had already started planning a little housewarming party when Glad approached me to participate in their one-bag challenge. I really loved the concept and agreed right away. The idea is to reduce the waste from your party down to one garbage bag or less. They asked me to put together a party kit of everything you would need to throw a party.
For our housewarming party I just wanted a chance for friends to stop by and see our apartment and chat. Since our house is so small I realized it might be tricky if I invited everyone we know over at the same time. So to prevent a crammed apartment I decided to have an open house for people to stop by throughout the day. I’ve thrown parties like that before and I love that no one feels rushed and you actually get a chance to visit with everyone. I also love that there isn’t the same kind of pressure when you entertain for an hour or two. The items I chose for my party are reusable pieces that you can invest in and some compostable and recyclable one-use items. I’m a big believer that a party doesn’t need to be complicated. You usually just need a few unexpected elements that make the party feel special and that your guests will remember. I am so excited to host a party in our small apartment. I’ll be sure to share pictures afterwards.

Lovely! I adore your ideas – fresh and lively.
aaaaand i’m gonna need one of each.
xo the egg out west.
Love all the party ideas. It would be great if you had some menu suggestions, I’d love to host an all day party but I don’t want to serve cold cuts or be in the kitchen the whole time.
I second Rebecca’s comment. I was just trying to figure out how to move all my furniture out to fit everyone I would like over for a housewarming party…but I think your idea of an open house would be a lot more fun and feasible.
I’ll share all the details and menu in my follow up post!
As a big fan of veneerware and other bamboo based compostable plates and flatware, I can tell you honestly that while the look is lovely, the mouthfeel is awful. For utensils (and cups), I always end up going with the CPLA ones that Branch Home sells: http://www.branchhome.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=215#.UUi1JltAQS4
I love the idea of a one-bag party. I will definitely take the challenge when we have our next get together!
Love this idea! And love that black and white pitcher- so cute with the bright colors in the tablecloth!
I absolutely love all of the items featured here! Looking forward to your follow-up post after your party!

Great choices! A fun, but expensive challenge as well. I really love the porch lights! Gorgeous, gorgeous bulbs.
Oh happiness! so glad to have found your blog! Oh happy day! xo
just what i needed
my housewarming party is so close! ♥
Those lights from Target are my favorite. They’re the best way to transform an outdoor space into a fun party area. Love the compostable cups too!
I just had a flatwarming night! Wish I had seen this before. I hope you have a fab party, and looking forward to your photos
