Paper fans are pretty standard in the world of party decorations, but what if you made them giant? We were inspired by a window display in Paris from a couple years back to make a super full, layered party fan backdrop. My favorite thing about this backdrop is how the layers make it feel more interactive than your run of the mill photobooth. It’s like you’ve stepped into a theater set in a world of fans! They even pack flat, so you can store them to use a second time! Full instructions below!
Materials Needed: 53” Savage seamless rolls (in coral, flamingo, and primary red), pencil, metal ruler, x-acto knife, 1” hole punch, cardstock, fishing wire, 3m ceiling hooks, gaffers tape
Step 1: For full circle fans, cut rectangles out of the seamless roll with a width to length ratio of 1:2.5. For semi-circle fans, cut rectangles with width to length ratio of 1:1.25. We made three different sizes with widths of 26”, 40”, and 53”.
Step 2: Use a pencil and ruler to section off the paper with into 3” sections for 26”, 4.5” sections for the 40”, and 6” sections for the 53”. Then, lightly score the pencil lines with an x-acto knife and accordion fold down the length of the paper.
Step 3: Create a scalloped edge for the fans. To save time, make a scallop template and trace the design onto the paper and cut out a few at a time. We went with one scallop for the 26” fans, two scallops for the 40” fans, and three scallops for the 53” fans. Then, punch a 1” hole into each of the scallops.
Step 4: Find the midpoint of the folded paper and knot twine around the center. Staple opposite ends together for semi circle fans. For full circle paper fans, staple the other ends as well.
Step 5: To hang a fan on the wall, create a bunch of tabs out of cardstock and hot glue to the back of the fan. Then, secure the tabs to the wall with gaffers tape. Arrange the remaining semi-circle fans on the floor for a layered look.

These are so great!
Do you have images of step 5? Trying to wrap my brain around the tabs though maybe it will become apparent when I make them…
