I got inspired to make these cakes after a trip to New York last fall. I saw some in a store display and had to make some. I love the idea of using them as mini pinatas or even as photobooth props. They are pretty simple to make and fortunately never go bad.
The moulds are easily made with cardstock and tape and then we put a layer of papier mache on top to give them texture and make them stronger.
Materials: Cardstock, scissors, tape, paper mache, paint, crepe paper
Step 1: Cut out two cardstock circles.
Step 2: Depending on the height of you cake, cut out a strip of cardstock paper that will cover the diameter of the circle.
Step 3: Tape the strip of cardstock paper alongside both bottom and top circles.
Step 4: Paper mache the entire piece of cake and let it dry.
Step 5: Paint the cake with the color of your choice
Step 6: Cut a piece of crepe paper, fold it in half and in the middle, and fringe.
Step 7: Hot glue your fringe alongside the top part of the cake.
