I love looking at vintage cake decorations and candles – some of them are so adorable and unique! If you’re looking for a different way to decorate a cake for someone’s birthday this year, try making these foil candle holders. You won’t believe how quick and easy they are!
Supplies: Disposable foil tray, screw punch, cutting mat, scissors, birthday candles
Step 1: Cut the foil tray into circles about 1″ in diameter.
Step 2: On the cutting mat, use the screw punch to make a hole the size of the birthday candles (or as close in size as possible; smaller is better than larger).
Step 3: Cut snips and wedges into the edges of the circles, making sure that there are an even number of cuts when finished.
Step 4: Carefully bend and curl the strips up and down to form a layered/3D look.
Step 5: Slide the birthday candles into the center holes. If the candles are too big, use a kitchen knife to taper the bottom edges until they fit. Decorate your cake!

Those are a great idea because they keep all the icky wax off the cake but still keep it looking pretty!

How do you keep the foil from looking wrinkled?

The key is using a stiff foil tray/lid, not foil that comes on a roll. I buy large foil lids (they’re usually the smoothest) from the dollar store. Hope that helps! 🙂
