Yesterday my friend Brooke handed me The Umbrellas of Cherbourg and said, “Watch it, it will be your new favorite movie.” Wow! It did not disappoint. It is a French movie from the 60’s filled with beautiful people, dressed in beautiful clothes, and the art direction is bright and gorgeous. I loved it.

I saw this movie a LONG time ago, in college, but I appreciate the reminder to see it again. I’ll add it to my Netflix Queue 🙂

That’s so funny I was just going to rent it last night because my aunt told me I would fall in love with it! Thanks for reinforcing the idea!

Oh my goodness, how I love, love, love that movie. When I watched this movie, my husband wandered in and out of the room trying to understand and just being confused… It’s so weirdly perfect and the saturated colors make me want to make a gazillion cupcakes covered in bright teal, brilliant yellow, and red-red-red buttercream. Maybe I’ll throw an Umbrella’s in Cherbourg-themed party this spring.

Hi there! This is one of my very favorite movies! It was a war protest movie. Can you imagine? It’s just so beautiful. Catherine Deneuve is perfect. By the way, I love your blog.

I saw this in college and loved it as well! Another foreign movie you might like is To Live, a Chinese (I think?) movie that will make you laugh, cry, and feel just about every emotion all at once. I think it’s possibly my favorite movie ever! Plus it has beautiful music too.

My mother introduced me to this film when I was a child, and I think it has had a huge influence on my style and work. Gorgeous.
