Here is an easy tutorial to make Watercolor Party Hats. Watercolor is fun to work with because it doesn’t need to be perfect. Down below you’ll find our tips for getting the best, perfectly imperfect strokes. Every hat will be a little different, and that’s what makes them so fun. You can paint these in colors to match your party or just in a rainbow variety.
Materials: Watercolor Paper, Watercolor Paints,Various Sizes of Paintbrushes, Party Hat Template, Scissors, Exacto Knife, Pencil, Elastic, Water
Step 1: Use your biggest brush to cover the watercolor paper in a thin layer of water.
Step 2: Dip your brush in water and then cover it in a thick layer of watercolor paint.
Step 3: Spread the paint with strong, confident strokes. Once the paint is on the paper, don’t paint over your strokes until they’ve dried. But, feel free to experiment by adding additional colors, flicking water onto the paper, and blotting the paint with a paper towel to add texture.
Step 4: Allow the paint to dry completely.
Step 5: Print and cut out our Party Hat template.
Step 6: Trace the template onto your painted paper and cut it out.
Step 7: Fit the tabs into the slot.
Step 8: On each side of the hat make criss crossed cuts with your x-acto knife.
Step 9: Push the elastic through each hole (I use my x-acto to do this) and tie a knot to hold it.
Step 10: Wear and enjoy!
