Have you seen David Chang’s Ugly Delicious yet? Regardless of where you stand on the importance of authenticity for a good slice of pizza, you probably (like the rest of us) love the ubiquitous food! In celebration of our favorite pity party food, we made a giant paper pizza backdrop! Read on to see how.
As a kid there was nothing more exciting than winning a pizza party for the class. It is the ultimate motivator! This backdrop would be perfect for a pizza party (whatever the occasion)! Make it an activity by cutting out the toppings in advance and inviting your guests to decorate their own slice!
Materials Needed: 53” Savage seamless roll (in ivory), pencil, ruler, Rotape Tape Compass, scissors, acrylic paint (in red), paintbrush, cardstock (in red, green, white, and black), 2 ½” hole punch, 1 ½” hole punch, washi tape, gaffers tape
Step 1: Unroll the seamless roll and draw a triangle with 42” sides and a width of 22”. Place the point of the Rotape compass at the top of the triangle extend it down one of the sides. Then connect the points between the two sides with an arc to give the pizza slice a rounded edge.
Step 2: Cut out the pizza slice with scissors, then trace to make seven more slices.
Step 3: Following the curve of the bottom of the pizza slice, paint a 2” wide section with red acrylic paint for tomato sauce, leaving a 4.5” wide crust.
Step 4: Draw pizza toppings onto colored cardstock and cut out. We went with mushrooms, basil leaves, pepperoni, and olives. For olives, punch a 2 ½” circle out of black cardstock then punch out the center with a 1 ½” punch. Make a bunch of each so each slice will have variety.
Step 5: Tape the pizza slices to the wall with gaffers tape, leaving a small gap between each slice.
Step 6: Invite your guests to attach the toppings to the pizza with loops of washi tape!
