Today, we’re excited to partner with The Nut Job 2 to throw a modern kid’s party inspired by the movie! Heading to the movies is a great way to get out of the summer heat. The Nut Job 2 is the last kids movie of the summer, so it’s the perfect hoorah before school starts back up! We jazzed up our party with colorful details and treats inspired by the movie and its characters. Read on to see more details and download our free party printables!
To make our party feel fresh, we decided to incorporate bright colors, rather than just traditional woodsy neutrals. We drew inspiration from The Nut Job 2’s characters (have you seen Surly, the purple squirrel?!) and spray painted animal figurines and pinecones to make bright party decor. To keep with the theme, we served a variety of nuts, circus peanuts, and my personal favorite: peanut butter cookies! We also made these darling acorn printables that you can use as place cards or gift tags. Go nuts! To finish things off, we made acorn favor boxes from vending machine capsules! You can fill these with little treats or prizes to give to your guests (they’re perfect for tiny hands!). Now, all you need is to see the movie, in theaters August 11th (psst… you can check out the trailer here!)
Acorn Favors
Materials Needed: Small vending machine capsules, spray paint (in brown and rainbow colors), scissors, printable oak leaf template, cardstock (in brown), hot glue gun
Step 1: Spray paint the lids of the vending machine capsule brown and let dry completely. Then, spray paint the clear capsule bottoms different colors.
Step 2: Print out the acorn branch template onto a matching brown cardstock and cut out with scissors.
Step 3: Fold along the dotted line at the bottom of the branch stem to make a tab. Apply a small dab of hot glue to the tab and attach to the top of a capsule cap.
Step 4: Fill the capsules with small treats and snap the top and bottom closed!
