I was walking down a street in New York City one night a few years ago when I saw a happy group of partiers with party hats going by. They had personalized their hats with really funny sayings in marker. I thought it was fun inspiration for a party DIY. I love the idea of customizing a hat with something funny just for the person wearing it.
For this DIY we painted the hand lettering but you could also just do it with a silver or black sharpie. This reminded me of the time we made these custom tote bags for my birthday party guests. I used little sayings and phrases and memories from my life and painted them on tote bag and gave them to guests. They were a big hit.
Materials needed: Party hat template, cardstock, white paint, paint brush, scissors, elastic, stapler
Step 1: Download the party hat template and print on a piece of cardstock. Trace the template onto the colored cardstock and cut out.
Step 2: Paint a fun saying on your party hat with white paint.
Step 3: Assemble your party hats by slipping the tab into the slit.
Step 4: Cut a piece of elastic and tie a small knot on each side. Staple the elastic to the inside of the hat. Party away!

These would make super cute place settings too, if you wrote people’s names on the hats!

These are so adorable! I love any opportunity to personalise objects and make them more unique, and this is a great example.
I really want to do this for my next birthday, but I feel like 21 may be a little old for party hats ? I don’t want to grow up!
