We’re obsessed with googley eyes like just about everyone. So we couldn’t resist bringing them out to decorate easter eggs this year. We had them sitting in the egg carton on the counter and I kept giggling everytime I would walk by.
This DIY is pretty straightforward but here is how you make these silly easter eggs.
Materials needed: Hard-Boiled Eggs, cup or bowl large enough to fit an egg, white vinegar, teaspoon, boiled water, ½ cup measuring cup, food coloring, googly eyes, Aleene’s Quick Dry Tacky Glue
Step 1: Hard boil a dozen eggs.
Step 2: Mix 1 teaspoon of vinegar, ½ cup of boiling water, and 3-5 drops of food coloring in a cup and gently place your egg in it. Add more water if the egg isn’t completely submerged. Let sit for 2-5 minutes while periodically lifting the egg out of the cup with a spoon to check the color. This way, you can achieve the exact color you want.
Step 3: Remove the egg from the dye with a spoon, put on a cooling rack, and let dry completely. Repeat the dyeing and drying process with the other eggs. Feel free to experiment with mixing dye colors, the amount of food coloring used, and the length of time the eggs are left in the dye.
Step 4: Add googly eyes with a small dab of Aleene’s and let dry. All done!

Googly eyes make everything better! I went through a phase of putting them on EVERYTHING, and I kind of miss it! It definitely made me smile seeing silly faces on otherwise inanimate objects.

Mister Heart Handmade UK loses his mind over a set of googly eyes. So much so that for his last birthday I got him a huge bag of them. Best. Present. Ever! x
