As the head crafter here at Oh Happy Day, I know that the bulk of the time spent on a custom pinata is papier mache-ing and working to get the shape just right. Piñata makeovers take that whole mess out of the process! For our latest makeover, we made a pair of giant pink fuzzy dice! We love the retro kitsch vibe these pink fuzzy dice could add to a pink birthday party. We were inspired by vintage fluorescent dice Jordan found at a flea market a few weeks ago. They were so bright and fun — you couldn’t help but smile when you held them!
You can fill these up with treats and give them a whirl (have you heard about our new favor kits?), or hang them proudly on the rear-mirror of your giant car. Take your pick! Either way, this awesome makeover is too easy to pass up. See our other makeovers here!
Materials needed: Cube pinata, white spray paint, x-acto knife, zip ties, tissue paper, scissors, hot glue gun, white cardstock, 2 ½” hole punch, rope
Step 1: De-fringe the pinatas.
Step 2: Spray paint the pinata bases white and let dry completely.
Step 3: Cut a bunch of fringe out of pink tissue paper with a good pair of scissors. Our fringe was roughly 2″ tall and 1 cm wide.
Step 4: Rotate the pinata so one corner is on top. Use an x-acto knife to make a hole on two adjacent sides of the corner of the pinata. Insert a zip tie through both holes and tighten to form a loop.
Step 5: Hot glue pink fringe to the pinata, starting from the bottom of each side and working your way up.
Step 6: Punch out white circles using a 2 ½” hole punch. Look up an image of a dice for reference and hot glue the dots onto each side.
Step 7: Repeat steps 4-6 with the second pinata.
Step 8: Fill your pinatas with treats.
Step 9: Knot one end of a piece of rope around one zip tie loop and the other end around the other zip tie. Tie the midpoint of the rope to a longer piece of rope to hang. You’re ready to roll!

Love ❤️ Question why the glue gun? Instead of white school glue?
Glue guns dry more quickly and create less of a sticky mess. But white glue would work too! Your fingers just might get a little tacky. 😉
