These elegant and spooky Halloween Balloon sticks are great for a party centerpiece or for a non-candy favor option. Kids love them and they are inexpensive to make. Amy styled them here with a white Halloween backdrop from the Oh Happy Day Party Shop. We made a few sticks in Black widow form but instead of red our black widow spider sports a neon pink. Much cooler!
We added some pretty tassels and ribbon to make these balloon sticks a little more festive. See the full DIY below!
Materials Needed: Wooden dowels, black paint, paintbrush, 5″ balloons (in black), 11″ balloons (in black), pipe cleaners (in black), hot glue gun, jumbo balloon sticks, crepe paper (in black and gray), ruler, scissors, ribbon (in black and silver)
Step 1: Paint 1” black stripes onto the wooden dowel.
Step 2: Inflate a 5” balloon so it’s 4” in length and a 11” balloon until it’s 7-8” in length. Tie the balloons together to form a spider head and body.
Step 3: Twist 5 pipe cleaners together and bend them to create a curved spider leg. Make 8 legs in total for each spider.
Step 4: Apply hot glue to one end of the pipe cleaner spider leg to cover up any wire that may be sticking out. Let dry. Apply a 1” strip of glue to the pipe cleaner leg and attach it to the balloon body. Hold in place until cool. Repeat for the other 7 legs.
Step 5: Glue the balloon stick cup to the spider body and insert the painted wooden dowel into the cup.
Step 6: Cut fringe from crepe paper for the tassel with good scissors and a ruler. Our fringe was about 3” tall and 1 cm wide.
Step 7: Roll the crepe paper into tassels. Twist the top of the tassel to keep it together. Cut a length of ribbon and tie it around the top.
Step 8: Gather a couple tassels in a bunch and tie them around the wooden dowel.
