Arrrgh Matey!

Since Monday (9/19) is International “Talk Like A Pirate Day”, I figured it was the perfect opportunity to introduce the internet to my favorite workplace tradition: Subtle Pirate Day. In my first job out of college, my coworkers and I invented Subtle Pirate Day as a way to break the monotony of our boring job responsibilities. The goal was to wear clothes that referenced pirate attire, but weren’t obvious enough to get us in trouble. You know, office-appropriate pirate garb. (Think: Jack Sparrow sitting in a cubicle from 9-5.) The results were hilarious and the day was so fun – it felt like we were all playing a secret game. If you want to start your own Subtle Pirate Day at work, Monday is the perfect opportunity! And we’ve compiled a few outfit ideas to get you started…

The beauty of Subtle Pirate Day is that you can definitely pull together an outfit from items you already keep in your closet. We suggest: a head scarf, braids, pants or leggings tucked into boots, anything ruffled, lots of gold jewelry, long jackets or vests, hoop earrings, a low ponytail, neckties and stripes! Just remember – keep it subtle. You don’t want anyone to think you actually meant to dress like a pirate. 😉

This is hilarious and so cute!! Some days I force myself to take off an accessory if I start looking too pirate-like in my black skinnies, boots, and white button-down uniform :).

@Jordan can you do a post on the OhHappyDay team? Seems like you’ve grown a lot in the recent few years (I’ve been reading since 2010 !), and while I know (and love) that this blog features a lot of snippets about your family and car and house, it would be so nice to know who’s who in all of these photos, why they joined the team, how you all break down your work, what their interests are, etc.
