Here’s a fun and simple DIY for a striking party photobooth backdrop! Giant lollipops in all the colors of the rainbow!
Materials Needed: 12” x 1/2″ diameter dowel rods, acrylic paint (in white, purple, navy, light blue, green, yellow, orange, red, and pink), paint brush, any wide-mouth container, printable swirl template, 4 sheets of 8.5” x 11” paper, scissors, pencil, 10 x 1″ styrofoam discs, hot glue gun, gaffers tape
Step 1: Apply white acrylic paint to the wooden dowels. Start by applying paint on one half of the dowel, let dry in a wide-mouth container with the painted side up, then paint the other side. Work on the candy swirls while the dowels dry.
Step 2: Print the printable swirl template onto two sheets of 8.5” x 11” paper. Cut out the swirls.
Step 3: Arrange the four cut-out swirls on your styrofoam disc. Lightly trace the outlines of the swirls onto the disc in pencil.
Step 4: Using a small round brush, carefully trace the pencil outline in your first lollipop color, then paint the interior with a flat brush. Depending on the color, you may need to do a second layer to get a perfect, flat color. Let dry completely.
Step 5: By now, your white dowels should be completely dry. Apply a dollop of hot glue to one end of the styrofoam disc and attach the dowel. Hold in place, applying moderate pressure until glue has cooled.
Step 6: Repeat with the process with the rest of your colors on the remaining discs.
Step 7: Affix to the wall with a loop of gaffers tape on the back when all of your pops have dried. Voilà! Lollipop backdrop!
