It can be tough to come up with a unique theme when planning a bridal shower. Why not pick a color scheme instead and make these vintage-inspired umbrellas for decor? I hung these pink and white ones over the gift table. (Want even more umbrellas? Make these drink umbrellas or cake toppers!)
Supplies: Card stock, crepe paper, string, needle, wooden skewers, white glue, hot glue gun, pencil, scissors.
Step 1: Trace a circle (I used a smaller dinner plate) onto card stock and cut out. Mark the center of the circle.
Step 2: Cut a slit to the center, form a cone and hot glue in place.
Step 3: To decorate the umbrella, cut out another circle of the same size but in different paper. Cut wedges of this new circle and glue them evenly onto the umbrella.
Step 4: Thread the string through the needle and pierce the center of the umbrella. Hot glue the string into the underside of the umbrella and leave a long tail on the top, for hanging later.
Step 5: Apply a generous dab of hot glue into the (underside) center and attach the flat end of a wooden skewer – hold in place until the glue has dried. Then trim off any excess length of the skewer from the other side, about 3-4″.
Step 6: Cut small “J”s out of matching card stock, about 1 1/2” long.
Step 7: Hot glue the first J onto the end of the wooden skewer, and then glue the other one to the opposite side. Use a tiny dab of glue to attach the bottoms of the two handles together.
Step 8: Decorate the umbrellas however you like! Use crepe paper, scissors, and white glue to attach fringe to the edge of the umbrella, glue card stock patterns on, attach sequins, etc.
