This little birthday costume candle is super easy to make and is so adorable. We just added some cellophane to a headband to create the flame. See below for the full instructions!
This is a sweet little Halloween costume that you could pull together in an afternoon. I’m just trying to figure out how to make one adult-sized.
Materials: Poster board, newspaper, flour, water, bowl, packing tape, painter’s tape, spray paint, x-acto knife, yellow and orange cellophane, headband, craft foam, wire
Step 1: Roll a piece of poster board lengthwise. Tape in place.
Step 2: Prepare the paper maché by mixing equal parts water and flour in a bowl.
Step 3: Soak the newspaper pieces in the mixture, the wetter they are the easier they are to stick to the frame.
Step 4: Lay the pieces on the frame making sure to cover every part.
Step 5: Hang on a line of string to dry.
Step 6: Once the paper maché dries, spray paint the frame white.
Step 7: Cut arm holes near the top of the frame.
Step 8: Attach pieces of craft foam above the arm holes (these will rest on top of the child’s shoulders to keep the frame in place.)
Step 9: Tape stripes of painters tape diagonally around the frame. Make sure they are secure in place.
Step 10: Spray paint over the frame:
Step 11: Once the paint dries, peel off the painter’s tape.
Step 12: Cut cellophane into the shape of a flame and attach to a plastic headband with wire.
