Lately I’ve noticed lots of for sale signs up around my neighborhood. I don’t have any new neighbors yet, but wouldn’t it be fun to bake them a cake as a welcome gift? This DIY white picket fence cake topper is a simple way to add an extra little something. It would be cute on a freshly baked pie too!
Supplies: Popsicle sticks (the wide and thin kind), white ribbon, white paint, sealer, hot glue gun, scissors, paintbrush
Step 1: Cut one end of each popsicle stick into a point.
Step 2: Paint the popsicle sticks white, leaving several inches on the bottom as is. Let dry. Coat with sealer. Let dry.*
Step 3: Hot glue a piece of ribbon to the popsicle sticks, about 1″ down from the top. Use an extra popsicle stick as a guide to keep the spacing between the popsicle sticks even.
Step 4: Hot glue another piece of ribbon about 2″ below the first one.
Step 5: Carefully insert the fence cake topper into the cake up to the white painted edge.
*NOTE: I was unable to source a food safe sealer, so the one I used was non-toxic. If the proximity of the cake and paint/sealer is something you’re uncomfortable with, leave the popsicle sticks plain and use a matching ribbon.
