So many of my friends are having kids these days that I find myself working on baby showers all the time. Here is a cute idea for a party with a honey bee theme – perfect for a shower or a kid’s birthday. Making this beehive cloche is super simple, as it uses items you probably have on hand. They’ll be a great handmade touch to a bright, sunny party!
You will need: a 1.5 liter smartwater bottle, bamboo skewers, yellow and black paint, scissors, hot glue gun, paintbrushes (both a wide one and a detail brush), crafts knife, clothesline, wooden ball, and tape
Step 1: Using the craft knife, carefully cut off the spout of the water bottle (I found that the neck of the bottle is super thick so it’s easiest to cut around the shoulder of the bottle). Then cut around the bottle so that the top piece is about 5 inches tall.
Step 2: Using the tape, cover the opening on the top of the bottle piece.
Step 3: Hot glue the rope around the bottle in tight rows.
Step 4: Paint the cloche yellow. It’s easiest to do if you dilute the paint down with a bit of water.
Step 5: Paint the bee for the top of the cloche. I found that it’s easiest to do if you first glue the wooden ball on a bamboo skewer. First paint the ball yellow and let dry. Then paint the black stripes using the detail brush.
Step 6: Glue the bee to the top of the cloche.
