Here is another fun Halloween series we did this year: Hipster Halloween Costumes. The Ira Glass one kills me! This is only part one, there are more coming tomorrow! (To see more Halloween costume ideas, click here.)
Click through for more details!
Hipster // This costume can be for a girl or guy. Start by applying temporary tattoos. We put 2 large ones on the chest, the applied them up and down the arms so they created a sleeve. For the outfit, we used skinny jeans, converse shoes, a white v-neck tshirt, and a cardigan (with the sleeves rolled up.) Finish off with a beanie and thick rimmed glasses.
Materials: Beanie, Glasses, V-Neck Tshirt, Cardigan, Skinny Jeans, Temporary Tattoos
Moonrise Kingdom // You could do these costumes separately or as a couple. For Sam, the costume might take a little more planning. We got most of the items from the thrift store and eBay. Pair khaki clothes with a yellow scarf, raccoon hat, and thick rimmed glasses. For Suzy, pair a pink dress with a beret and saddle shoes. You could also carry binoculars, flowers, or a small suitcase.
Materials: Sam – Khaki Jacket, Raccoon Hat, Glasses, Yellow Scarf, Thick Wool Socks, Scout Badges, Backpack, Sleeping Bag ; Suzy – Beret, Binoculars, Pink Dress, Knee Socks, Saddle Shoes
Ira Glass // I’m so excited about this costume. I love Ira Glass! This is a really easy outfit to pull off in a short amount of time. Make sure you spike up the hair and then spray the sides gray. For the outfit, pair a white shirt and suit jacket with a tie. You may also want to carry around a radio.
Materials: Silver Hair Spray, Glasses, White Shirt & Suit Jacket, Tie, Radio
Royal Tenenbaums // You could use these costumes separately or as a couple. For Margot, this costume is great if you have a short blonde bob (but you could also use a wig.) Make sure you pin the hair back with a big barrette. For Richie, use a long-haired brown wig with a sweatband, a beard, and sunglasses.
Materials: Margot – Fur Coat, Hair Barrette, White Gloves, Purse, Tennis Dress, Black Shoes; Richie – Brown Wig, Sunglasses, Sweatband, Beard, White Polo Shirt, Brown Jacket

Oh. My. Goodness. Those Moonrise Kingdom costumes are the most adorable things I have ever seen. Can’t wait until I can dress up children of my own for Halloween!

LOVE these! And I was flipping through your older posts and couldn’t get enough. Frida Kahlo? What. I’m trying to find Amelia Earhart for my 22-month-old girl so I absolutely love the “strong woman” costumes!

My kids would have no idea what they’re dressing as since both movies are not kid appropriate and they’ve not seen them- (I think both movies are fantastic.) The only Wes Anderson movie they’ve seen is Fantastic Mr. Fox. Cute costumes, but more for the adults.

Hehe!! Too hilarious. The can’t-see-my-face beard on the Royal Tenenbaums kid is killing me.
What??

Funny for adults to look at here, but I’d have to call any parent who actually makes their kid dress up like this jerks. Let kids be kids, for goodness’ sake!

I agree with WHAT?? – These costumes are more about adults using their children as dress-up dolls. If a kid wants one of these costumes – fantastic! But I imagine most would wish for something else.

@ELIZABETH I wish Jimmy Fallon had given a shoutout to Oh Happy Day when he brought up the costume with Glass. I bet you a ton of people are thinking this is commercially available. Maybe there’s an Oh Happy Day merchandising opp here :-)!

These are soo adorable! Definitely something for the cool kid – that’s if they don’t want to be a Spiderman or princess, haha. I might have to make an adult version of moonrise kingdom!
