Big Sur Roadtrip

A few weeks ago we took a quick weekend road trip down to Big Sur so I could run the Big Sur Marathon (I finished!) The drive is one of my favorites. It isn’t too long (3 hours) and it passes the prettiest part of California’s coastline. I brought the snacks from our NatureBox subscription. I tried NatureBox for the first time a few months ago and really loved their service. They deliver healthy, nutritionist-approve snacks right to your doorstep! You can choose your own snacks from the tons of options they have or let your box be a surprise. For our trip, it was so easy to grab the box for the road and not have to think twice about what I was feeding my kids (no high fructose corn syrup, no artificial flavors and colors, etc.) Our box came with 5 different snacks, enough for everyone to have plenty. But you could also get boxes with 10 or 20 bags to fit your family’s needs. Right now, NatureBox is offering a special gift for Oh Happy Day readers! Use the code: HAPPYDAY when you sign up, and you’ll get 50% off your first box of any size. I highly recommend trying them out!

Would be awesome if you did things that weren’t sponsored sometime.

I realize that sometimes a blog can feel like there are too many “commercials.” That is fair criticism sometimes. In the case of Oh Happy Day I personally don’t think having 4 posts out of the 27 we’ve put up so far this month as too much. Especially considering there are months where there are no sponsored posts. My goal with sponsored content is to make them as authentic as possible and I take that very seriously. We say “no” to a lot of brands that we don’t believe in or don’t think are the right fit. Thank you to everyone for supporting the sponsors that make it possible for us to run this site. xo Jordan

They are from Gorman the Australian brand! And they are on sale. I looooove them.

@Lisa – she gives you tons of party ideas and DIY that are not sponsored. She needs to pay her bills and since you are not paying for her content she has to find other ways. You are coming to this site voluntarily without paying for anything, so you should let her develop her content as she sees fit.

I just LOVE that area and I’ve been dying to revisit. Maybe this summer? I hope so. I’ve been seeing Nature Box EVERYWHERE and I think I should give them a try. Stoked for a 50% off code 🙂 Thanks. -Misty

As crazy as this sounds, I often forget about Big Sur. I live in Berkeley so I can easily take my family. Thank you for the reminder! And, I’ve been meaning to try Nature Box. The snacks at Trader Joe’s are getting old and when you have 3 kids, you gotta have snacks all the time! BTW, I don’t mind the sponsored posts. They don’t bother me at all! You have such great content, it’s worth it!

I did that trip a few years ago w/ my kiddos and am doing it again this summer. It’s amazing and makes me appreciate all the road trips my dad took my brother and me on! But….did you not get attacked by aggressive squirrels like I did?? I swear they almost chased me off the cliffs 🙂 Your photos are gorgeous and I love your blog.

      Ha! No squirrels!

I love your blog and this trip sounds so fun! But there is not much about the trip in this post. I also love the idea of Naturbox and am planning on trying them out. I just don’t think you combined both awesome ideas well enough. It seems like just a commercial. Maybe if you talked more about the trip or your marathon. It just felt like- they paid us to show off these snacks and that’s all we are going to do. I get that sponsored posts are necessary to a blog, but I like when they are combined with more of the blog’s usual voice. This felt forced and I was disappointed because I really look forward to your personal posts.

Can you suggest a good place to stay with 2 kids in tow?

    Thanks!

Yes! Definitely stay at Deetjens. We had to stay in a boring hotel in town but usually we stay there.

I’m heading down to Big Sur when my parents visit from Australia next month and I can’t wait! We’ve driven through there once before on our way back to the Bay Area from Disneyland but by the time we reached Big Sur it was starting to get dark so we didn’t get to see much or stop. This time we’ll actually be able to take in the views. It’s going to be so great!
