Huge Giveaway with Splendid! + Pinata Favor DIY

Have you heard about the Crafting Community event at the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs? Crafting Community is a laid back weekend retreat for families. It is a also creative retreat, so there are lots of fun, interactive workshops for kids and parents. The Ace is one of my favorite places and I cannot wait to take my family there again.

Here is the best part, Oh Happy Day is teaming up with our favorite striped clothing company, Splendid to give a reader the chance to win a trip for 4 to Crafting Community  plus a $500 Splendid gift card! Entering is super easy, between today and August 30th, just click here to visit Splendid’s Facebook page and enter online. (Or, you can enter in store at one of Splendid’s locations. There will be a $500 Splendid gift card awarded to one runner up online and  $100 gift cards awarded to runner ups at each Splendid location so there are lots of opportunities to win!)

ps: We made these mini pinatas favors inspired by the Crafting Community event. I love the idea of making unique party favors for each of your guests following a theme and fill them with goodies and surprises. Just hang them up on a wall and they double as decorations and favors to take home. Click through below for the complete DIY.

Mini FAvor Pinatas

Materials: Crepe Paper, Cereal Boxes, Bone Folder, Scissors, Tape, Glue, Pencil, X-Acto Knife, Quick Dry Tacky Glue

Step 1: Draw out the shape of a summer item onto the back of cereal box. (If you don’t feel confident about free handing these, you can usually find templates through an image search.)
Step 2: Cut out the shape and use it as a template to trace the same shape onto another piece of the cereal box. Cut out this shape as well.
Step 3: Cut out several 1 1/2″ wide strips of cereal box. These will made the sides of your pinata.
Step 4: Begin taping a strip to the side of one of your shapes, scoring as needed.
Step 5: Tape the second shape to the top of the sides you’ve just built.
Step 6: Cut crepe paper into 1/2″ strips.
Step 7: Cut the fringe out of the crepe paper strips.
Step 8: Glue the fringe to your shape. Start at the bottom and work upwards.
Step 9: Pay special attention to the last row of fringe. The secret to a nice looking piñata is all in how you apply the top row. Glue this row over the edge so that it is on the top and front surfaces.
Step 10: To fill with candy, cut a small trap door in one of the sides with an X-acto knife. Insert the candy, and push the trap door back in.
Step 11: Give to friends as they leave your party!

Thank you, Pinterest, for helping me stumble upon your website today! Your blog is amazing! And seeing as Paris and San Francisco are my top 2 favorite cities besides my own (LA), I’m sure I’ll be a reader for many many more posts to come. Oh happy day! I’ve found my new favorite blog! 🙂
