Potato Bags + First Day of Summer Kits DIY

I love using rubber stamps. But for simple projects, sometimes it’s easier and cheaper to just make a potato stamp at home. (Remember this tablecloth and this piece of art?) For our First Day of Summer Favor Bags, we decided to make a potato stamp in the shape of a sun. We used it to decorate the bags we then filled them with essential summer supplies like mini beach balls, sunglasses, water balloons, and sunscreen.

Click through for instructions.

Materials: 1 Potato, A Small Knife or Lino Cutter, A Pencil or Pen, Small Brush, Paint, Favor Bags, Small Summery Treats

Step 1: Cut the potato in half.
Step 2: Draw the shape of a sun into the cut side of the potato.
Step 3: Use your  knife or lino cutter to remove all the potato parts around the sun (this will create a stamp.)
Step 4:  Use a brush to apply colorful paint onto the potato and then stamp it onto your favor bag. It may take a few tries to figure out how much paint to use.
Step 5: Wipe the potato clean with a paper towel and wait a few minutes before using the stamp with a different color of paint.
Step 6: Fill the bag with fun summer treats. We used mini bottles of sunscreen, mini beachballs, water balloons, and sunglasses.
Step 7: Give them out to everyone at your party!

Unfortunately, no. I don’t think marker would work. We dipped the potatoes in paint though, and it worked great!

I will try this idea and fill the bags with home made cookies for my son’s teachers. If it works out, I’ll post it on my blog. Keep my fingers crossed
