My first job out of college was working on the third floor of the San Francisco Ferry Building. On the bottom floor of the Ferry Building there is an amazing food market with specialty stores of every kind. Really, its like a foodie mecca. (See my explicit instructions on visiting the FB right here) That’s the first time I was introduced to Miette bakery. I loved everything about it. The packaging, the vintage cake platters and serving dishes, the beautiful custom cakeplates from local vendors. It’s also the place I first tried a Parisian Macaron. Since then they have grown in the Bay Area and even opened up candy stores. I was so happy when Chronicle Books sent me a copy of the Miette Cookbook. First off it is a beautiful book, right down to the adorable scalloped pages. But it is a fantastic resource of not only recipes but advice on how to frost your cake and cupcakes just so. I can’t think of another bakery that does presentation as well as Miette. This cookbook is definitely a classic. You can purchase the Miette Cookbook right here.

I received the Miette cookbook from Chronicle Books but was not required by them to post about it.

Did you receive the corrected one from the publisher? I bought it when it first came out only to find out there are a lot of erros with the measurments so i haven’t been able to bake with it and am now awaiting the new edition in October. So if anyone is wanting a book wait till then.

My office is right across the street from the Ferry Building, and we’re always picking up cute little cupcakes from Miette! They really do have the most charming little presentations <3

The Miette cookbook has been on my list for a while now. The images and recipes look amazing, but honestly, a book with scalloped edges could have anything between the covers and I would want it..

I preordered this book and was so excited when it finally arrived. There are some mistakes in the measurements but you can download a sheet of errors should you be so inclined. I have baked a few recipes and they are all exceptional. The peanut butter cookies are unbelievable! Amazon also informed me that they will be shipping a revised copy in October at no charge – yay Amazon!

Oh yay! I’m so glad this is out. I tried my first heavenly Miette cupcake when I visited my sis-in-law in San Fran a few months ago. She works for Chronicle, so she was happy to tell me that soon I could make my own icing like theirs. I’m glad you reminded me about it!
Also, she showed me a really cute video of the Miette owner talking about baking:

I purchased the book right when it came out and it is indeed adorable. But I have to say, I think the number of errors should be an embarrassment to the author and the editor. With so many food bloggers and Miette lovers, it would have been easy for them to find willing (and free!) recipe testers so I really feel there is no excuse. I feel strongly about this because in this day and age there are SO many free recipes available on the Internet that when you decide to actually pay for recipes, what I think I’m paying for is for them to have been tested and meticulously fact checked. The fact that Amazon is forcing Chronicle to mail out corrected copies really shows their immense clout in the publishing error and I do think kudos goes to them for making it right! I should also mention that I personally think that the book, which focuses a lot on their signature 6 inch cake pans, should be sold with the pans as the author says they are a must for her recipes and they are difficult to locate.

I worked across the street and went there daily for a while before I had by baby girl…I LOVED miette so much. Seeing their beautiful cakes made me want to learn how to make them. I have horrible craftsmanship skills so I doubt I could ever do it though. I loved the Scharffen Berger cakelette, super rich and dark….it was amazing!
