Secret of Paris by Babyccino

While I get settled in our apartment in Paris I’ve asked a few friends to do guest posts on their favorite “secret spots” in Paris. Today we have Emilie from Babyccino.

Oh, there are so many special things about Paris! But the one thing I have come to love especially since living in Paris is the ubiquitous merry-go-round at every major square or garden in this city. I love the diversity of the Parisian merry-go-rounds (or maneges as we call them). They vary from romantic, over the top, multi-level follies to hilarious 1970’s UFOs (that are being held together with tape). Some are truly beautiful and some are hideous… but there is something lovely about each one!

The funny thing is that I never noticed these maneges before I had children. I must have walked past them a million times without ever really seeing them! Now they play a huge role in my life — there is something so nice and simple about treating your kids to a ride around a wooden platform.

My favourite manege is possibly the one in the Luxembourg Gardens. It is beautiful! It has wonderful wooden animals to ride on and a lovely lady running it — it feels like a step back in time.

My kids loved them too. It was one of their favorite things they did in Paris!

I love merry go rounds — I remember alot of them being around when I was a kid. Unfortunately, I don't see them around anymore where I live.

When I visited Paris, my friends and I recognized the same thing – there are so many merry go rounds in the city. I loved them – they're definitely magical.
