I rented 500 Days of Summer over the break. Zooey Deschanel is inspiring most days but she was especially inspiring to me because I’m feeling 9 months pregnant and longing for the days I can have a waist again and wear a pretty dress. In the movie her character only wears the color blue, which I’m fascinated by (wearing blue for a whole year would be a fantastic NY resolution.) The movie sent me on an ebay/etsy hunt for pretty vintage dresses, which is another post for another day. In the meantime here are some screenshots of her lovely wardrobe and an interview with the costume designer right here. (Resolved: wear more pretty vintage dresses and bows in my hair.)

So cute. She looks like you!
I've been wanting to put bows with velvet ribbon in my hair recently, like my mum used to. 🙂

We rented this movie over the break too, and I loved it so so so much! I didn't even notice that she only wore blue, but now that I see your pictures…yep! Definitely all blue! So fun!
Her character really was so inspiring (especially her wardrobe!)

Adorable. That film is in my Netflix queue. I've never felt I can wear cute frilly vintage – I'm 5'11" almost and I feel a little like a five year old playing dress-up. But just yesterday I bought my first blouse with ruching and I think I like it! Small steps….

I too had this movie over break. I adored it, and I have always loved Zooey. I saw your twitter comments about the bows and dresses, and like Caroline, I thought, Jordan looks a bit like Zooey. You'll rock the dresses in no time!

We watched it over the break too! Loved it, and the wardrobe. But I have to say, Summer was just so mean! It's a good thing she was such an adorable dresser!

I loved that movie so much I ended up seeing it twice in the theater, and even convinced my boyfriend (who was living in a different city at the time), to take his mother to see it and they both loved it!
In addition to her adorableness… wardrobe included… I have to mention the soundtrack. The Pixies "Here Comes Your Man" is definitely a song I can relate to, and they did an incredible job with the music reflecting the characters age and attitude!
Looking forward to your fashion posts!

I had a baby 4 months ago and still don't have a waist. Your post was inspiring. Even though I have way more love handles than I can handle I want to wear pretty dresses too.

I watched it this weekend– so cute! Every outfit/bow was so perfect…I'm sort of a boring dresser (read: GAP addict) but she inspired me to add a bow or two if I feel like it! Great post, love your blog!

I loved this movie as well and although, I did notice that she wore a lot of blue, I didn't realize that it was in every scene. Was the last scene as a married woman, did she not wear blue? Hmmm, I'll have to watch the movie again.

I used to dress almost entirely vintage – so sad. The entire time I watched this movie I kept wishing I never sold my clothes away.
Time to go thrift shopping. And maybe to cut bangs. And definitely, definitely to wear more blue.

P.S. I'm a big fan of your blog and it's my first comment here.

I loved that movie and her outfits. I didn't realize she only wore blue in the move.

I saw the movie last year at Sundance and Justin Gordon Levitt explained the reasoning behind the color blue. I thought it was interesting that only Zooey wore blue in the movie and no one else. And I absolutely loved everything she wore!

That's it, Jordan, now I need more blue clothes! I loved this movie as well and her wardrobe was amazing but I never realized it was all blue until now. I'm heading to my lucky thrift shop right now. You'll have the pregnancy weight off in no time; I lost it easier with my second daughter because I was so busy taking care of two little ones.

The Blue thing struck me too–I then got excited to see what new blue, retro-y-chic cuteness would be next.

I own this movie. So lovely and honest.
Zooey wears blue to play up her blue eyes. As a fellow blue eyed lady, it's a good idea! 🙂

Oh, I love her (and the movie), but I never noticed the blue-only costume theme throughout the film.

Yeah, I noticed her blue wardrobe as well. I thought the movie was so cute and clever – a lot of thought was put into every outfit and prop. Like, did you also notice the way everyone was wearing blue during that adorable dance sequence?

I just found your blog and have been reading some old posts. I LOVED this movie and LOVE Zooey. I like that she is herself and remains true to herself in all of her roles yet manages to still embody the character. Very cool!
