I was going through some of Paul’s old Design Annuals looking for inspiration for a project I’m working on and found the portfolio of Laurie Frankel. I’d seen these photos before {I’m pretty sure it was on Black Eiffel} and thought they were very apropos for this spooky time of year. {The hot air balloon is my favorite.}
ps: Anyone have a good idea for costumes?

An alarm clock – Get a big(yes big) box and cut out a head hold and a hold in the front for your arms or “clock hands”. Paint the front to look like a clock. Wear some type of silver bell looking hat and there you go. That’s what I was in fourth grade and I thought it was awesome!!! Those costumes are pretty cute, I too like the hot air balloon.

Very cute. My 21 month old is dressing up as a Luchador (mexican wrestler). I have blue jammies, a pair of red briefs, a red cape with “Charlito” on the back and red converse high tops. I’m making him a mask but doubt Charlie will put up with it for long.

I like the costumes by Bandicoot Lapin Paris (John Derian carries some – look under goods, then costumes.)
My favorite is peau d’ane, but they are all wonderful:

last year I went as a french person. The year before I was a doll. I don’t know what to go as this year – I’ve always wanted to go as Morrissey or Edgar Allen Poe.

I’m planning on going all out and doing a ‘Marie-Thérèse’ costume on Grosgrain, bustle and all. Currently, I have a ‘Shenandoah’ civil war gown and a Sylvan Sorceress gown posted. But later, I’ll be doing a ‘tree frog’ costume because that’s what lily requested this year. To accompany the frog suit, I plan on sewing a bag in the shape of a leaf and tying it to a long stick for her trick’or’treat goodies.
But I’ve also considered doing “Little Bo Peep” and making a Bo Peep costume for lily (my 4 year old) and a little lamb costume for Molly (my 1 year old).
Soooo many ideas only one night!

Several years ago, my friend’s family dressed as Popeye, Olive Oil, and Sweet Pea. It was adorable.

My favorite costume as a kid was my 2 sisters and I dressing up as crayons! All you need is poster board, a black sharpie, tape, and the same color of clothes to go underneath.

If you’re looking for an adult male costume idea, my husband Brian went as Alex from “A Clockwork Orange” several years ago. You know….the costume where he’s wearing all white, with white suspenders, black bowler hat, black military boots, jock strap, cane and of course, long fake eyelashes on the top and bottom of his right eye.

Last year I was a loofah (see picture). The year before I was Elastagirl (from The Incredibles)- a very easy costume. Red tights, black bikini bottom, red UnderArmor shirt, long black prom-style gloves, etc. It helps that I’m thin and had almost the identical hair style as the cartoon.
