After debating back and forth what our fall vacation should be, we have decided on a winner. We are going to Hawaii to take the photography workshop Film is Not Dead taught by Jonathan Canlas. I’m so excited! My friend Juliann went last year and says it was “life changing.” The workshop focuses on using film, which is being used less and less these days. Jonathan is great, he is so open about everything, he shares all his techniques. Seriously, I’m so excited. I believe there are some spots left, so if you are interested look into it. The beautiful photo below was taken by Jonathan with his Holga.

That’s so great! Jonathan took my engagement and wedding portraits, and they are treasured pieces of ART. He really has a gift. That’s wonderful that he’s sharing his knowledge with others.

I am half Hawaiian but I’ve only been to Hawaii once. Although we stayed for three weeks so I got a really good feel. Are you going to Oahu or another island? Most people go to Oahu but I must tell you that for a real ‘old school’ feel of Hawaii you need to visit the other islands which are not as commercialized. We stayed in Maui for a couple days and it was AMAZING! Oh there are about a million things I would recommend to you, but if you end up in Maui, I recommend the ‘Hana Highway’. Scary but gorgeous. I’ve been dropping hints about going back. Take me with you:)

I just discovered this photographer myself. (Apparently he took my friends wedding pics when he was still a student at BYU) I love his work and the seminar looks amazing. I can’t wait to hear all about it when you get back!

Not sure which island you’re going to, but my hubby and I just got back from Kauai (arguably the most magical and beautiful of the Hawaiian Islands, though they are all beautiful)! We don’t use film, but did manage to take hundreds of digital photos with an SLR camera I bought for work. It was the perfect place for practicing photography… you will love it. If you do go to Kauai, be sure to make a stop in Hanapepe, an artist colony in the valley. It is so fun… and one of the stores is actually selling my jewelry designs. Have fun… I wish I could be going again myself!!!
